The Five Pillars/Mainstays are the center convictions and practices of Islam: 1. Calling of Faith (Shahada) The conviction that "There is no god except for God, and Muhammad is the Messenger of God" is key to Islam. This expression, written in Arabic, is much of the time noticeably highlighted in design and a scope of items, including the Qur'an, Islam's blessed book of heavenly disclosures. One turns into a Muslim by presenting this expression with conviction. 2. Petition (Salat) Muslims ask confronting Mecca five times each day: at sunrise, early afternoon, mid-evening, nightfall, and into the evening. Petitioning heaven incorporates a recitation of the initial part (sura) of the Qur'an, and is in some cases performed on a little mat or mat utilized explicitly for this reason (see picture 24).
